Default Trailer Hitch Weight Question

I am confused about hitch weight limits and would appreciate advice. I have ordered the new Pro Prode hitch even as I am still in the process of narrowing down my list of travel trailers. I really like the Crossroads Cruiser 31L TT, but the hitch weight is 1070 lbs, and that is very close to the maximum for my truck/receiver. However, if a weight distribution hitch such as the ProPride will allow me to shift weight to axels on the truck and trailer, that must substantially reduce weight on the receiver as well as the rear suspension of the truck. So, is the hitch weight really a critical element when used with a high quality weight distribution hitch? I figure that once the propane tanks are filled, and some camping items are stored in the front storage section of the Cruiser 31L, I could be near the maximum limit of 1200# for my particular receiver. It seems to me that quite a few well-built TTs have hitch weights that are substantially above the recommended 10% to 12%, but here again I am wondering whether a hitch weight that is heavier than ideal is really a problem if you effectively reduce that weight with a high quality weight distribution hitch.

Thanks,

Bill Yates
