We went through central Oregon and western Washington on the way to B.C. last year. We are thinking of going back this summer to enjoy it more. We have a date certain to meet the grandkids in Durango Colorado in very early July. If we go, we have a family wedding in the Bellingham area around Labor Day, then back to Texas by late September. I am from western WA, but a LONG time ago. Camping was tent, not 30' fiver.

So, I am looking for places in both states to spend a week or so at a time in cool climates and inexpensive camping. We usually spend a lot of time in the National Forest and love it. We are frugal (how else to do this on a military pension) but aren't looking for parking lots. Going west out of Durango looks "interesting" in that the most direct routes west are through places like Ely.
