Hi folks,
Just last week I purchased a new (to us) TT, a 2000 24 ft. Fleetwood Prowler (NW Edition). The NW Edition features a one-piece rubber roof (that was in excellent condition) and is (apparently) better insulated.
We're now in the process of a detailed cleaning and making it our own.
The prior owners were smokers and tried to hide the smell by hanging about 2,612 of those pine-tree air freshners throughout the camper. It didn't work. So we've discarded all bedding, pillows, cushions, and drapes. We picked up some new 5" foam from the local fabric store and my wife is making new covers and drapes. We're going with an "Americana" theme and even found some new wallpaper boarder to spruce things up a bit.
The only thing that we can't replace would be the cushions on the couch as they're stapled and permanently attached to the frame. We're hoping that a very thorough professional steam cleaning will get the couch "renewed". We'll then throw a new slip-cover over the couch.
The batteries were in just "fair" condition so I'll be replacing those. The RV shop doing a couple of the minor repairs actually suggested that I go with two new 6V batteries (ie golf cart) rather than going with two new 12V's. He said that I'd actually get better performance (power capability) out of two 6V's than I would two 12V's. The local Les Schwab confirmed this.
The only downside is that if one of the 6V batts goes out, I lose the whole kit-n-caboodle as I understand it. (Not to mention that if I do, hypothetically, need to replace one of the 6V batteries, they're not as easily replaced as a 12V as some dealers just don't stock them).
Anyone care to chime in with their thoughts on the battery set-up they'd recommend? (As info, we'll be doing three to four day trips rather than long extended outings. Most likely we'll be staying at a site with full hook-ups the majority of the time. The reason why I want the max power capacity is that wifey tends to leave lights on and I don't want to be stuck without power a few hours from home if we're not a campground with electrical hook-ups.)
Admittedly, I'm a total noob, so thanks in advance for your info and understanding with my TT knowledge impairment.
Cheers!
Phil
