Thumbs up Spare Tire Mod.. 5th Wheel

Most trailers have one spare tire on the back near the bumper or centered underneath............

I had one spare underneath and in the center, but there was room for two spares.......so I added another spare tire up and under. I had to purchase a second spare tire crank down mechanism and simply moved the tire over. Notice the rear center grommet is still there but now useless. Also notice in the blurred picture that I used a heater hose to stabilize the rod that is used for cranking. I slid the heater hose over the rod and now it's pretty secure as it fits through the metal sheeting. Also notice the newer style crank mechanism...works the same, but it's a different manufacture. Also it's a different hole instead of a drive. I cut it in half and made it the same as the old one (rod that you put the crank into). I welded a drive onto the new rod to make the old and the new receptacles the same........I only need one crank handle, not two!!

If and when I do travel to Alaska, I think I am ready as far as "spare tires" are concerned. My next task is to strengthen the area adjacent to the tires so if one does explode, it won't tear up the trailer as bad........
