Did Walmart just stike a death-blow to Blu-ray (HiDef DVD)?
In a secret sale this morning that ended up not being so secret, Walmart sold the Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player for $99. This is before a mail-in rebate for 5 HD-DVD movies that at best can be found for $15 each. That means they were practically giving the Toshiba HD-DVD players away.
DW went to the nearest Walmart this morning and was told all the units they had were taken before the doors opened at 8. For the most part, this has been a trend across the country. I've saw it mentioned somewhere that Walmart may have bought 2 million of these things. If true, we may be in for more of these "secret sales".
Now I've been a holdout on these format wars until it's more clear if one of the formats will go the way of Betamax. Perhaps the handwriting is on the wall now.
