Default cordless drills

in reading the post on Craftsman tools, I got to wondering what is the minimum volt rating on a cordless drill that one should look for when purchasing one to raise/lower stabilizer jacks and just do regular drilling .... I've found the drills tend to outlast the batteries but that when you go to replace the battery it is almost as cheap to buy a new drill with new batteries ... would also appreciate suggestions as to brands of cordless drills that have proven to be good or that should be avoided
