I have been trailering for years, strickly weekender and occasional week here or there. I used a Reese Brake Man on my last three tow vehicles. Back then was pulling a 20 ft Nomad for a while, and then Sunnybrook 29DBS. Towed initially with Jeep Cherokee and Nomad, then Chev Van (1500) and Reese worked fine, little jerky at times in traffic and so forth. When I bought a P/U truck decided could go to bigger (heavier) trailer and got 27FKS. I started to feel uncomfortable with braking. My dealer originally told me about the Reese, saying that proportional or inertia type controllers were major headaches needing constant adjustment and leveling. I had even mentioned to him that I remember as a kid that my Dad's tow vehicle had a controller that was tied into the hydraulics of the brakes back in the 70's and he said that was no longer possible due to changes in federal laws! When I started to feel uncomfortable braking on the new set-up, I researched on line and found the Prodigy information, I went to local dealer (not same one), he had on shelf, I took home plugged up (how nice that is) and took a test drive. WOW - CAN'T BELIEVE I SUFFERED SO LONG WITH THAT OLD REESE. What a difference, stopped smooth, quick and felt so great. Towing is a whole lot less stressful, I can brake with confidence.

Now I hear all this commotion about new brake controllers that, from what I read, I guess DO tie into the hydraulics? Seems like I'm always behind the curve on this. Do you think these newer controllers will be worth the expense compared to the Prodigy?? Hard for me to believe I could stop any better than I am now.

If only I could get the surge brakes on my boat trailer to work so well
