Ootsa Lake free CG
About 50 miles south of Burns Lake via a free ferry and paved road (almost all the way), is a nice CG on Ootsa Lake. Several prepared sites. Free 20 amp electricity to a few. Those are ususally taken by regulars. The campground is next to the ALCAN (Aluminum Company of Canada) spillway and is managed by them. The man made lake is at about 3,000 ft, is about 150 miles long and over 400 feet deep in places. It is first come and free. Two weeks stay. I found some pretty good trout fishing below the damn. The lake yields rainbows to 15 pounds. There is an annual tournament over Labour Day, which may be the only time it is full. Late August temperatures were in the 70s most days. Can get a bit windy.
