Default old tires

My buddy towed an old antique trailer yesterday on a 400 mile trip at highway speeds with absolutely no problems. The trailer pulled like an arrow. I don't know if the rain helped to keep the tires cool or he just had a Angel looking out for him. He had 2 spares and lots of equipment in case of trouble.

The trailer probably is from the late 50's or early 60's. Knowbody can identify it. It is a 28' tandem axle with aluminum skin with front and rear doors. Somebody thought that it might have been built for the U.S. military. The interior must have been awsome in its day, some real craftsmanship. The skin is panels all riveted together. He said that it handled better then his modern trailer, even without sway control or spring bars. He might even have it restored to use. Even his fuel millage was better. He said that he can run 4 hours pulling his modern trailer on a tank of fuel but he was running 6 hours on a tank with the old trailer. I don't think that we have really improved on airodynamics or towing efficiency much in the last few years.
