Garmin has recently come out with a new line of GPS that is programmed for use in big trucks

    introduction video

    different models

I can see a GPS like this being very helpful for folks towing 5ers or driving larger motor homes .... can also see it has having some features that could come in handy for folks towing TT's, specially longer ones .... it looks like they are priced at/near $400

Some reports of impractical and illogical routing.

Does look like a nice unit.

If I were buying today, I'd get the Rand McNally 7720.

Yes you do need to keep your maps updated.
Some roads are no longer in use, and there are many new roads.
My area is a good example of new roads. I would bet that the old map would try to take you through I-40 downtown the old way.
The new way just south a little is supposed to be better.

I am told the strange looking sculpture on an overpass is supposed to be a scissor tail state bird. Maybe you need to be drinking to see it.

Haven't tried ours through there yet, but it does have a truck/buss set up on it.
Even if it is discontinued. You can still get them on e-bay.

          Competition

Glad to see there is a little competition out there, it's pricey but the 7720 is also, hopefully the price will drop a little as other distributors start selling them.

Yeah, but my first Garmin in 1990 cost over $800 and only did a fraction of the current GPS units.

              Gps

Problem is GPS units are like computers - longer they are on the market the cheaper they become. I bought my current one 3 months before they offered free live time map updates. At $25 to $30 a pop it's not not before you exceed the value of the unit. Cheaper to buy a new one.

interesting unit, I really like the weather feature .... $400 seems to pretty much be the price but after its on the market for a while that may drop a bit

Less than I paid for my five year old nuvi-765. And yes, the features are tempting, but I can't justify the "upgrade". I'd be better served spending my cash with Progressive Industries.

                      Price

The price is going to have to come down to get folks to buy, it will depend on retail outlets to help out. But the features look good, hopefully someone will spring for one and give us a live test.

Had the same thoughts. I'm looking for Frank or maybe Russell to step up and give us a Consumer Report.

I've been playing with CoPilot Live Premium on my ipad and have been seriously considering switching to an ipad Mini to use as a GPS with all the things that my present Garmin Nuvi provides as well as all the ipad functionality.

                          here is a screen shot.
