  • Fix for hardware bug in Broadcom WiFi chip in iPhones - Public Service Announcement

For those that have a device running iOS (like an iPhone or iPod), Apple released an update to iOS (10.3.3) last week that plugs (via software) a major hole in the WiFi hardware IC manufactured by Broadcom. A security researcher found the issue, reported it to Apple, and kept quiet until Apple had time to implement some software to block the issue. The day after Apple released the update, the security researcher presented his findings to a Black Hat security conference, so the technique to hack the devices is now in the public domain, and it is likely some bad people are working on the hack. The bug allows the ability to completely take over any device within WiFi range. It would be a good idea to make sure you are running iOS 10.3.3!
