  • earlier today we used our roof mounted CarryOut G2 antenna to lock onto DISH satellites for the second time .... the first time we were parked among trees and frankly I was surprised it managed to lock onto a signal .... this time we have a clear view of the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western skies .... not to mention all of the sky between them .... the last time we were here we were using Direct TV and the same CarryOut G2 .... as part of taking care of things inside of our camper when setting up and breaking camp, Maureen customarily handles getting getting our television going .... she says it seems to her that there isn't much difference but it locks onto a DISH signal a bit faster than it did to one from Direct .... we are still learning about this new system but things do seem to be coming together

          • Jim,
The spot beams (locals) are mostly unpredictable. We have been able to get our locals (Los Angeles)
from as far as 400 miles away. The spot beams usually cover many towns.
When you call dish to move the zip you get locals from the nearest large city.
We have been all over the West and always got some locals which included the major networks.

YEE HAW!!!!!!!!!!! Won't have to set up a VPN and stream League Pass to my home office computer and then connect to my flat screen via ACTIVE DVI to HDMI gizmo. if anyone is gun shy regarding Dish and its urinary olympics with Fox Sports, keep in mind we went through this regularly with DirectTV and right now Spectum is fighting with whoever owns our local CBS affiliate and has turned off CBS till they get done fighting that out. The just finished issues with Dish and Fox also affected Sling TV. TV is getting pretty cut throat and the consumer is the victim regarless of who your TV service is.

                • Who has the best deal going for Dish right now? Also, do you have to get your home and RV from the same place or can you get home from one and then RV from the RV place mentioned above?

                          • equipment update :

we purchased a Pace International external hard drive (link below) to go with the DISH Wally receiver ... it is advertised to "Record up to 100 hours of HD programming." ... to date we have saved 17 movies which have taken up 3% of its capacity .... it is easy to use and is proving to be a good addition to our system

Advertised as an "expansion"... does your receiver have to be a DVR? Meaning... does this enable a person with a non-DVR receiver the ability to start recording shows?
My understanding... the only difference between a DVR and a non-DVR receiver is the internal hard drive.

Wally (receiver) in our camper does not have a built in capacity to record programs .... it does come with a USB plug for the external hard drive to plug into .... first time you plug it in, the Wally reboots and when it comes back on the screens needed to schedule, store, replay the recordings is there .... its biggest limitation is you can't record one show while watching another
