  • Winnebago buying Newmar

should be interesting to see where this goes :

"Winnebago Industries is paying $344 million to buy premium motor-home maker Newmar Corp., expanding both its product line and dealer network. Winnebago Industries — based in Forest City, Iowa, but managed out of Eden Prairie — will pay $270 million in cash and the rest in stock for the Nappanee, Ind.-based Newmar. The deal is dependent on certain closing conditions but is scheduled to be completed in Winnebago's first quarter of fiscal 2020, which ends Nov. 30."
Winnebago, which is based in Forest City, Iowa, but managed out of Eden Prairie, is expanding its portfolio of premium recreational vehicles by acquiring Newmar Corp., based in Indiana.

Ugh ... hate to see these higher end companies being bought by mass production focused companies. I understand it... but I still hate it.

competition for folks wanting high dollar rigs is intense .... I'm surprised that Newmar has been able to hang on this long

That's the part I understand. Just hate to see good quality / reputable companies gobbled up...

On that subject, someone once told me that as part of the Jayco sale to Thor... Jayco executives had to agree to a non-compete period. I had heard that that time was coming to an end and a couple of Jayco execs were planning to start their own company.

        Any news I've missed?

I'd heard about the non-compete period but don't know when it ends .... that would truly be interesting

Yep. Based on their history alone... one would think that their brand would be one to immediately garner significant attention.

for a similar story .... Don Clark and brothers Ron and Bill Fenech were part of the ownership team that led Keystone RV Company to be the largest travel trailer and fifth wheel company in the world ..... after selling out to Thor and getting through their non compete period, they started Grand Design .... if I was in the market today for a new 5er, there line would be the first I would consider

I would have figured Newmar was worth far more than 344 mil

I didn’t read about any debt on Newmar’s part involved in the deal. I would think that to be rare not to have some. I’m wondering if Winnie took on Newmar’s debt, if any, in the deal.
