  • Heck of a Trip

as many of you know, our oldest son is a Radiologist .... as this is being typed his 9 1/2 flight from JFK on Turkish Air has just landed in Istanbul, Turkey .... he'll be there for about an hour before boarding another Turkish Air flight scheduled to last 7 hr 20 min flight to Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) ...total flight time 22 hrs 59 min . .... he and one of his former instructors from UNC's Medical School are paying their own way .... they will be there for 2 weeks training doctors and technicians on how to make the best use of a range of radiological equipment .... while we are happy that they are willing to go to such lengths to help people, we are also more than a bit concerned .... positive thoughts and prayers would be appreciated

per FlightAware his plane should be on the ground at Dar es Salaam, Tanzania .... he has been on a plane for 23 of the last 26 hours .... I've never made a flight like that so I can only guess how he's doing .... no clue when we will hear from him

The longest I’ve been on a plane is 20 hours. When they start the 4th full length movie you know it’s been a long ride. No thanks to do it again without some form of sleep aid. Good to hear your son is giving back. We need more like him.

When Uncle Sam determined he no longer required my services (1972) he put me on a plane in Korea. We flew to Japan and sit on the ground for abt an hour (fueling up I guess) and the next stop was the base at San Francisco. I don't remember the hours but it didn't matter, I was headed home.
