Your first day is tuff. I try to avoid 400/day as much as we can. We stop often (at least every 2 hours) to stretch our legs and walk our 2 older fur babies.

yep, so do we .... we are 20 or so minutes from I-40 .... after we get on it, we simply set the cruse and roll until getting to the exit for Soaring Eagle which is literally right beside the interstate .... we deliberately schedule our longest drive for the first day ... doing so allows us to drive just under/over 300 miles per day for the rest of the trip

all of our reservations for out drive to South Dakota and back have been made and confirmed .... the only surprise was finding out that Clarksville RV Park where we have stayed many times has been sold .... while they have a completely new website, their phone number remains the same .... this years visit to South Dakota will be a couple of weeks longer than the trips for the last few years and we are most certainly looking forward to it

one week from today we are scheduled to leave for South Dakota .... today we begin in earnest to get our summer gear loaded and stored in our camper and truck .... to do so, we will have to work around bands of thunderstorms that are supposed to move through from early this morning, through late tomorrow ....

trip preparations continue .... basement storage has been rearranged and then rearranged again .... final packing of the basement and other outside storage areas will be finished on Saturday or Sunday .... next will be cleaning out our truck so as to store some items and better organize others .... checking its oil and other fluids will take place Saturday morning .... our large Yeti cooler will be tied down on its rear carrier on Saturday or Sunday .... in short, nothing major going on, rather an ongoing list of "have to take care of" is growing smaller

we are up and about on this departure morning .... we hope to get on the road around 9AM, history has taught us that its best to let the morning rush settle before we pull out .... today's drive is scheduled to be our longest of the trip .... about 400 miles and should take about 6 hours

400 miles in 6 hours? You make better time than us when pulling the 5er.

that time projection was from Google Maps .... we are setup at Soaring Eagle Campground and it actually took us 7 hrs 5 min to cover 418.9 miles today ... cruise set on I-40 at 64 mph

I think that is good time. Averaging almost 60 MPH with breaks, excellent. Would take us at least 7 1/2 to 8 hours.

today's drive was considerably shorter than yesterday and much closer to what we prefer .... 296.2 miles covered in 5 hrs 31 min .... we are now setup at Duck Creek RV Park, Paducah, Kentucky ====> https://www.myrvtalk.com/forum/rv-de...ducah-kentucky .... its hot and dry .... if the forecast holds true, we have a good chance of arriving during steady waves of thunderstorms passing through Columbia, MO after another 300 mile drive .... during today's drive we happened on bad accident .... a truck hauling a load of fertilizer dumped its load which a group of motorcycles, at least 6 bikes were wrecked .... one big bike was really torn up .... no clue as to how the driver is doing but from looking at the bike, we fear for the worst

as forecasted, today's 314.8 mile drive took us through several bands of rain .... it took us 5 hrs 32 minutes .... while the rain was heavy at times, no lightening seen, no thunder heard .... thankfully no wrecks but plenty of construction that backed up traffic to a crawl .... we are now setup in a very wet Cottonwood's RV Park in Columbia, MO (pictures below) ===> https://cottonwoodsrvpark.com/ .... more rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast for this afternoon and overnight thankfully, all rain should have moved out well before we have to break camp in the morning .... trees are blocking our satellite TV signal, so it will be movie night .... so far we've covered 1029.9 miles in 18 hrs 8 min ....

today's 272 mile drive is scheduled to be our shortest of the trip .... it will take us from central Missouri to north of Kansas City .... we plan to fill the truck today because this area has the lowest diesel prices of any we will see on this trip .... after yesterday we are happy to see no rain in the forecast .... KC is the last major city we will have to deal with and for us that's a good thing
