  • Lake Catherine State Park, Hot Springs, Arkansas

We camped 3 nights at Lake Catherine State Park near Hot Springs, Arkansas in June 2013. We were in site 43.

The Loop B camping area was designed many years ago and the roads are tight for larger RV's, but it's doable. I had to traverse B to get to my site in Loop C. Loops A and D are easy access for large RV's. Road out of A is steep.

Great water pressure and fantastic water quality. Consistent 50A electric service. Sewer located at rear of site. Roomy campsites. Great tree cover.

Excellent hiking trails. Good swim area. Lake Catherine was developed in the 1930's for a power plant. It is clearly visible across the lake.

Nearest town is Hot Springs, 15 miles away. There is much to see and do in Hot Springs.

    We would stay here again.

Once again, you DO camp in the nicest places! If that dentistry business don’t work out for you, you always have a future writing for Camping, RV, and Travel Periodicals. You sure make me want to hitch up and go. Somewhere, anywhere. Thanks for sharing with us.

      Thanks, Clayton.

We really enjoy visiting new places. Sometimes they are good, sometimes not. But we always have fun.

We camped at Lake Catherine a number of years ago on our first trip south for the winter. We were returning to the Chicago area after spending a January in Arizona and Big Bend National Park, TX. We left Big Bend due to a 12 degree cold front moving in, this was before having solar and a generator. We got to Lake Catherine mid February and stayed a few days waiting for a weather window to continue north. It was a wonderful few days, temps in the mid 60s, folks fishing on the lake, a real eye opener for us Chicagoans, you don't have to go way south to have good weather in the US. One thing that was odd for us was the good weather, but no leaves on the trees.........any way, we have stayed in a few Arkansas state parks and haven't found one that we didn't like.
