  • Cottondale, Fl.

On our way to the Mississippi Gulf coast, we stopped at a campground in Cottondale, Fl., called Hitchin Post Corral and Campground. Long name but great place. $25.00 PPA. If you like the feel of a real campground, you'll love this place. It's been open about 1 1/2 years.

    We'll be back for sure!!!!!

Good to know. That area is about the end of the day for us when we head west on I-10. Other than an older (but nice) former KOA at exit 166, camping options are slim in that neck of the woods.

add us to that group .... per Google Maps its 9 hrs 48 min from Lake Conroe .... for us 5 hrs is a typical day's drive so it must might fit in nicely when we return home via the southern route

We stayed there 2 nights. FHU, and great OTA channels, 20+. They have 24 spots available. We choose #7, away from I-10, a back in with plenty of shade and privacy. Gravel spots, but level. The pull thru's are up by I-10. They will furnish you with free fire wood. When you arrive to check-in, they come to you.

One thing I like about this place is they do not allow permanent living.

It's not a luxury RV Resort, but the owners are really trying to make it work. I hope they do. The atmosphere is good!!!!!

Opening this post back up. We arrived here today at the Hitchin Post Corral and Campground located in Cottondale, Fl.,for the night. Right off I-10. Again, nothing fancy but huge sites. PPA is $25.00. Can't beat it. We will stop again on our way home in three weeks. Very nice couple that are the owners. We were also here Nov. 2017.

The 'no permanent' campers sounds good to me. So many of the campgrounds are more like a mobile home park now with a few sites for travelers.
