  • Doll Mtn. COE

Today we drove up to Ellijay and checked in to Doll Mountain COE. What a beautiful campground. We are on site 13 and our whole loop is vacant. Here are some photos: #1 is looking down the road at our site, #2 is looking off our patio, and #3 is out or rear window. Almost forgot, Doll Mtn Rd is a steep, curvy drive, about a mile and 350' elevation change.

Sunday afternoon at Doll Mtn. Starting Friday the campground filled up for the weekend, at least 50% with families in tents. By mid afternoon today we have the place to ourselves again, at least the area we're in. A couple of workers just came by cleaning all the recently vacated campsites. This place, like most COE parks is spotless, a welcome change from the Florida State Park we spent last weekend in. There the sites were littered with half burned pieces of wood and debris. I have to make a run to the dump station every time my wife does a load of laundry, but that's a small inconvenience for such a beautiful site.

Water and 50amp only but if you carry a blue tank having no sewer is not much of a problem. The rest rooms and laundry are at the top of the hill in our loop, not too handy for the tenters. There is no easy shore access, probably why so few are here.

          Don,
Is the Crabtrap ll still in business in Ellenton? I had many enjoyable lunches there with a customer from Ruskin.

Yes, it's still there. The family that runs it had a falling out or something and the Crab Trap I is owned and run by another sister and has changed there menu somewhat. We haven't been to the CT II since the split.

We also like the Anna Maria Oyster Bar and seem to go there several times a season. The Riverside Grille in Palmetto is also a favorite.

Arrived back at Doll Mtn yesterday and set up on site 7, a shady site with satellite reception (not for roof top reception though).

We are on our fall trip and back at Doll Mountain COE near Ellijay, Ga. for a two week stay. Our camping club, SunnyPalms, holds a month long caravan each May and plans to visit several COE parks next year, this being one of them so I paid particular attention to shade and satellite reception yesterday. Looks like only 8 and H2 are sites with no afternoon shade and no satellite reception on H2, 6 and below. There are lots of additional sites in the park besides this loop, but they are heavily shaded and I doubt you will get satellite reception.

We brought our dehydrator with us and will find some apples today. Bobbi likes to give dried apples as Christmas gifts.
