  • Kickapoo state park

Within this state park are many ponds used for fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. The area had been a coal strip-mine which is what created the ponds. The park apparently was the first in the nation built on strip-mined land. We had a beautiful drive through site with 50 amp, a nice view of one of the ponds, and shade trees that kept us cool. We enjoyed watching deer and wonder through our site and all for $20 a night.

    Kickapoo state park

I grew up in this area and have been there numerous times. Nice park with plenty of hiking trails and if you like to fish, canoe or kayak this is the park for you. As a side note my Dad worked in the CCC camp there in the 1930's.
