I heard something about this as an option to assist in the provision of housing for the influx of workers for the oil production boom in the western part of the state.

With the possible extremes in the weather, it is not feasible to expect those with RV's as their primary housing to be able to "weather the weather" in the winter.

By being able to set them up in a climate controlled environment they can survive in them year round.

When I first heard of the concept it made sense to me. The garage style "sites" seems to be a little different from what was initially described, but looks like it should work. The initial description I saw talked about large domed enclosures that would allow for sunlight and weatherproof entry to the dome for toads or two vehicles so they could come and go during the normal business but to be parked inside the dome, just as in a "normal' campground.

This may be easier to do for a first go around as the winter approaches, with the more elaborate domed affairs to be worked on later???

In the link, under "Location", it says the facility is at Watford City which is near the center of the current activity.

Had not considered the oil field workers. With that in mind... it makes perfect sense.

Since the oil field boom has left Rifle, Colorado, I am not letting the cat out of the bag here. During the boom, the city would not allow RV parks to be built, since they did not like them. The oil companies said, OK, we will build lots for our workers. NOPE, we would not get any bed taxes lie we do from motels. Oil companies said, OK, we will build warehouses for our equipment and give up on providing housing for our employees. They will just have to make it on their own.
I saw the door open on one of them once. RVs parked inside, with all utilities and they were lived in. It was a joke around town about the city fathers cutting off their noses to spite the face. Those warehouses were never used for anything except RV parking.
It would certainly be good in ND. That place gets cold in all capitals.

The influx of people to the Bakken Basin in North Dakota and eastern Montana compares to a gold rush. Williston, N.D. is overrun with the need for housing. The amount of people living in rv's ( families included ) is unbelievable. Williston has passed a lot restrictions on rv parking and new rv parks are opening in and around the area. This one addresses one of the main problems. It's darn cold there during winter!!!!
