  • Marietta, OH - Washington County Fairgrounds

    Cash or Check

As stated in the information on the Internet, this is not a campground at the fairgrounds. It’s a fairgrounds where you can camp. There are no amenities, except a port-o-john by the office. I never saw the manager the entire week we were there. Even when there was an event during the weekend, the office was closed.

Register – on your honor system. $20/night – a lot of people just passing through for the night. Some people off to the side are temporary workers in town.

You can camp on the grass, or on the blacktop.
20-30-50 service available, depending on which site you choose.

Sewer is available – However – at the blacktop sites, there is only one drop for two rigs. Fortunately, we didn’t have to figure out how to share.

If you have pets, there is an open field (shaded) behind the rigs, and you can walk around the roller skating rink building, into the playground area (swings)

To be perfectly honest, we didn’t see a dump station, but then we weren’t looking for one.

On a positive note, most things in town are within either walking or bicycling distance (which we did). We filled up before we left Columbus, drove to Marietta, drove a little in Marietta, and drove to Sissonville, WV, all on one tank of fuel.

Grocery store is just a few miles away. Wal-Mart is about 10 minutes away, depending on traffic.

I was doing a little family research, which is one reason we were only there for a week. If we ever go back there again (for a very short stay), we would stay again, as long as there wasn’t a big event going on (like the fair). But if we were going to be there longer, we would find a place that is more like a campground.

We put the address in the GPS, and it took us to the fairgrounds. However, if you’re traveling from the North, it’s really easy to miss the turn onto Front St. (a narrow fork in the road). We had a very hard time trying to find a place to get turned back around to turn in from the other direction. Coming from the downtown area, you can’t miss the turn into the campground, but make sure you turn in at the Fairgrounds sign and not the supposed RV park just before the fairgrounds.

Good to know. My daughter may attend college there. She has her choice narrowed down to Marietta and 3 others. We have been looking at how far away the nearest campground is to each school so we can "visit"

      Cheap Stay

Just be prepared for not having any kind of amenities. It's very bare bones - basically just a place to hook up.

Double check and make sure there isn't any kind of event taking place. There aren't that many sites, and if you plan to stay there, you'll want to make sure you've got a place.

If you leave a message at the office, he will call you back, but it might take him a few days.

We liked Marietta, by the way. Nice town.
