  • First trip in our new camper and truck.

We spent the week at Artillery ridge campground in Gettysburg PA. The campground is old but nice. Full hookup 50amp with enough room for my rig with some tight between tree turns getting out. The marks on the trees tell the story. They have a huge tent area and an area for horses with barns. Very nice camp store and good people. If we go back to that area we will stay there again.

We went for two reasons. 1) To spend a few days on the battle grounds. 2) Shake down for the new camper. Both went very well with plenty of shots of the battle field and only 2 small issues with the new rig. Issues with the rig are: One fantastic fan will not open it's lid. And the black tank flush hose is cross threaded on the back of the fitting and leaks. Everything else works as it should. We love the full size fridge and the washer/dryer is something we will quickly add to a must have list for any future campers. The 6 point auto level has reduced the setup time to almost nothing.

    Now for pictures.

In the last picture you see only a small number of the "unknown" grave markers in the national cemetery. The town of Gettysburg (about 2,500 in 1863) moved the dead from very shallow graves dug by union soldiers so they could get back to farming the fields that were covered in these shallow graves. It took years to move them all and they are now marked with a simple number. They are in groups broken down by state and it's a best guess based upon where they fell (where the shallow grave was discovered).

Lincoln was not the key speaker at the dedication of this national cemetery. He was not invited by the town but instead was invited by a friend to give a few remarks "after" the dedication speech. He stood up and delivered what today is known as the Gettysburg address. It took only a few minutes to read it which was good news to the towns people because the first speaker spoke for 2 hours.

I have sat through some of those.

                Gettysburg

Took the kids there years ago, it was education along with Hersey Park, Hersey was great and so was Gettysburg (Kids were surprised). History was alway my kick and I've dragged the family to everything nearby and far for years.

We both love History as well. Pickett's charge was suicidal and did not match any of the previous victories in terms of charges, in fact it matches nothing in history that proved successful in any way. It makes me wonder if Lee saw no road to victory in the longer run and decided it's time to start losing this war.
                  We will never know.

                        Mike,
Some of the FFans tend to have the dome stick to the gasket--FF used to send a new gasket free, but don't know now that they were bought out.
Might go up on top and lift the dome gently while wife activates the motor--once open, talcum powder might keep it from sticking, if in fact that is the problem.
And very nice pics, and very nice combo to tow.

I just got it back and it's fixed. Jayco left out the motor that lifts the lid. It seems that it was taken off at the factory because it did not work and was never replaced and got shipped without anyway to open the lid unless it was sold to someone 8 feet tall. No harm done with the exception of 1/2 tank of diesel to resolve the issue.

Yep, they fixed it, had to replace both fittings. Works as designed now. I knew it would break before it unscrewed and it did. That was a very determined factory worker to get that fitting almost sealed with a cross thread situation.
