For years I have talked about stopping at Beaufort, SC on our way home from snowbirding in Florida. This year we did it. Small compared to Charleston or
Savannah which are nearby. So much history in this area and it is a worthwhile stop if you enjoy stories of the early settlement and Civil War era and the public buildings and homes of that era. Each of the houses below had a great story and there were many more.
We used a tour service which I highly recommend, Janet was extremely well versed on the history of Beaufort and it's homes, her walk took about 2 1/2 hours so being able to walk a distance is necessary. Carriage tours are available for those who feel they are not able to walk the distance.

We stayed at the Point South KOA, about 1/2 hour outside of Beaufort, if you search you will find about 4 campgrounds in the area.
