Estelline, SDis my wife's home town and is literally one of my favorite places in this country .... in my mind it is a throwback to a much simpler and better time .... one where kids still ride their bikes to the pool, play in the town park and walk uptown without a host of adult supervision required ..... the folks here take great pride in their school which is the absolute center of life .... conversations can't take place without comments like, "oh, she graduated with" .... a couple of years ago the school board, teachers, an principal didn't like some changes made by the SD State Board of Education .... the seceded from the state system and at the end of the year, their student body had the highest average on the state test .... they have a small 5 site town owned RV park with full, 30 amp sites .... reservations would be a good idea over holiday periods ....it is a town where folks take pride in the looks of the community .... most of he homes are old but they are well kept and the yards are really taken care of .... following will be a good number of pictures .... first few are the signs you see on the way into town .... the last three show the two block main street and the road into the town from the east and going out to the west

I'm guessing that somewhere in that town is a diner that serves close to (if not the best) biscuits and gravy breakfast...

Places like Estelline are my favorite places to be.

the Red Carpet doesn't do breakfast ... their lunches and dinners are outstanding .... large walleye fillets to prime rib .... it is owned and operated by Maureen's youngest brother and his wife .... it is truly unique in that it literally has a bar where folks are sitting doing some serious drinking and right beside it are tables where families with children of all ages come to eat .... nobody, but nobody gets out of line

I don't know why, but this question just hit me. How in the world did you meet such a fine lady as Maureen when she is from way up there?:Scratch-Head: Thank the Good Lord that you did though.

That is a right nozy question--maybe Jim doesn't want anyone to know much about his early schooling? Or are you just jealous?

guess I've hijacked my own thread .... that year the National Science Foundation rented Newton College to train teachers how to teach a new high school science program .... the brought in a bunch of folks from around the country and Maureen (from SD) and me (from NC) .... oddly enough, there were only two women in the group and the other one was a Nun .... we met the day before the conference started and as they say, the rest is history ..
