  • Sand Hollow State Park--Hurricane, UT

We arrived here after about a 75 mile drive from Kanab, UT. Hurricane itself is a nice town. It has really wide streets and everything is very clean. There are several shopping areas, a Super Walmart, and many eating places.

The park we are at is called Sand Hollow State Park. It is about 5 miles outside of Hurricane. The roads into and out of the park are very smooth blacktop and concrete. This park is a huge 4x4 4 wheeler, motorbike, and dune buggy base of operations. There are two campground loops here. One is on the west side, where we are, of the lake, and the other is on the east side. No OHV vehicles are allowed in the west side. That is great so we don't get any of the noise or commotion normally associated with those type of activities.

The sites are all well marked, and all are extremely roomy. Notice the pictures of our site, we are parked on the back of our pull through and have tons of room for the truck in the front. We have a covered patio with picnic table, and also a fire ring. There is 50/30 amp power, water, and sewer at each site. There is no WIFI available, but our Verizon 4G MIFI works really well. These sites rent for $28 a night. We'll be here 2 nights.

We're about 25 miles from Zion National Park. We have already been there 4 years ago, but since we are so close, we'll go again tomorrow.

Picts show the site and part of the park. The only drawback to this park would come in the summer months as there are very few trees in the park. Right now it is 68 degrees and is wonderful.

FYI: Sand Hollow SP has had a serious water problem. The West Campground (the one with FHU) is closing from 7/23 to 8/23 for repairs. They are contacting those with reservations (like me) to cancel them.
