  • Honey Mustard Steaks with Grilled Onions

4 boneless top loin steaks (we used sirlions)
    1/4 cup coarse-grain Dijon-style mustard
    1 tablespoon hopped parsley
    1 tablespoon plus 1 1/2 teaspoon honey
    1 tablespoon cider vinegar
    1 tablespoon water
    1/4 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
1/8 teaspoon course ground black pepper
1 large onion sliced 1/2 inch thick (we used Vidalia onions)

combine ingredients .... we chose to double the above recipe so as to be able to reserve about half for table use ... coat both sides of steaks and onions, place them on a grill at medium heat (we used indirect heat) .... each time the steaks are turned, liberally recoat both both sides of the steaks and onions ....

place +/- half of the sauce on the table so folks who wish to add more may do so

this recipe is reported to come from the North Dakota Beef Commission

we fixed these steaks and onions on 5-11-18 .... they were a hit and we will fix them again

last night we had our last family gathering prior to us pulling out for our summer trip to South Dakota .... there is no way we can prepare baked potatoes, steaks and onions for 16 people in our Holland Companion so we pressed our new smoker into service as a grill, no hickory smoke involved .... potatoes on top, 2 racks of steaks, and onions on the bottom .... I believe in slow cooking and at 250 degrees in our smoker, it really proved to be slooooow cooking .... we used the Honey Mustard as per post 1 .... it did take a while but they really turned out well

I got lucky and showed up at Jim's place to fix an electrical issue and had one of those steaks and onions for lunch. Hope something else breaks soon.
