  • Amazon Hub

as usual, when something new comes along, I'm generally one of the last to find out about it .... for the last few years we've found is becoming more and more complicated to receive Amazon orders while traveling ..... most of the campgrounds we frequent while spending the winter in Texas will only accept packages from UPS or FedEx (will not accept any from the USPS) and charge $5 to $10 a package to do so ..... most of the rural Post Offices will not accept packages shipped to General Delivery that are shipped by UPS or FedEx .... a couple of days ago we learned about Amazon's Hub network .... part of their motivation in creating the system is motivated by areas where packages are prone to be stolen .... to tryout this program we ordered a set of filters for our camper's RO water filtration system on Jan 9th and picked the Hub where we wanted it shipped .... during the morning of the 11th we received an email saying our package was there and available for pickup .... we are very pleased with this transaction and can recommend it without reservation .... link for finding a Locker near where you want something shipped

we are getting ready to head out to pick up another Amazon order at their local Hub .... this system works so well for us that we've already located the one near the campground where we will be after leaving Lake Conroe

from what I've learned, Amazon has both Hubs and Lockers (something like a safety deposit box) where they will drop packages for folks to come by and pickup later .... since the upswing in packages being stolen off of porches, they have contracted with various businesses to serve as Hubs to receive packages and hold them for a limited time .... the one we use in Willis, TX is in a G&C store, the one in Columbus, TX is in a drug store

earlier today we drove over to Columbus, TX and picked up an order at one of Amazon's Hubs .... as noted above, this one is the Health Mart Pharmacy/Columbus Pharmacy .... its conveniently located across the road for Walmart and HEB .... the pickup went off without the slightest hitch .... the more we use this new Hub system, the better we like it

Love the Hub also. Picked my package yesterday at the Whole Foods location near us. Great not to have to worry about porch thieves

This sounds like a great idea and will cut down on porch pirates, now my question is I wonder what the hosting location gets out of it besides possibly more foot traffic.

Some large offices are offering them as a "perk". Ease of shipping to your office... lower risk of theft...
Some places - like grocery stores - are banking on the increased foot traffic to provide a benefit.

Amazon is currently offering locker services to small businesses for no charge if you donate the space and electricity to run it. We got a notice through our Amazon business account for the bakery.

                    We declined.

Thanks for the info so kind of what I thought just wasn't sure if maybe they rented the space then might have been worth it some.

I have no doubt that there is math being done that shows a coverage point where Amazon becomes more profitable with a reduction in delivery costs by building a network of these delivery hubs.

agree .... they do have an economic side to consider but they also have a public relations side to help customers prevent packages being stolen after delivery
