  • Reverse Snowbirds

snowbirds tend to travel from the colder northern parts of the country to spend the winter in warmer southern areas

reverse snowbirds travel to cooler northern areas to escaper hot summer temps in the southern parts of the country

while we have a growing number of folks who taken their campers south in the winter, I don't remember seeing many post from folks to leave home and travel north in their campers in the summer .... that has me wondering, how many of us do so

    Jim

for us .... come late May/early June we leave home in central NC and travel north to spend the summer in South Dakota

We probably qualify as reverse snowbirds. We only have to travel 160 miles to go from the hot Phoenix valley to the cool White Mountains for the summer.

that would most certainly qualify in my book .... while snowbirds get most of the press, I tend to believe that there are plenty of us reverse snowbirds out there as well

I don't know if full timers can be classified as snow birds, but if we can I guess we would qualify as both snowbirds and reverse snowbirds. We spend the summer months divided between northern Illinois and the northern Oregon coast and we spend winter months in southern California, Arizona, and the south gulf coast of Texas. We left Nehalem Oregon this morning and are headed south down the Oregon coast. We will eventually end up in southern AZ later this month.

There is not much to see this morning for the fog. It should be gone in a couple of hours and we will be spending the day in the redwoods near Crescent City, CA.

I wind up out there a couple of times each year on business. I have taken a few extra days out there to see the sights and do some trout fishing. It's perhaps the most beautiful part of this great country.
I did an all day drift boat fishing trip with a guide and it's the marker for all other fishing trips in my life. If I had stepped off the boat and died I would have lived well.

We are looking to do the North Ga. for the summer. Thinking Hiawassee. We just went up last month by car to check the area out. We thought Bald Mountain Resort would be a good place. Any suggestions.

                    Interesting question Jim.
Snowbirds even have a name, what would a reverse snowbird be called.
                    Maybe a sunbird.

But, to be a true "reverse" snowbird, wouldn't one have to travel from where the weather is nice, to where the weather is cold and snowy? and not just to a 'cooler summer"?:stir:

The reverse would be the oppressive heat.

                        Heatbird maybe?

As noted, it seems there are more RVs heading south for the winter than north for the summer. However, this past summer we went to northern NM and on into Alamosa and Durango, CO. If you didn't have reservations you were out of luck, AND, they were getting low $40s for less that full hook ups.
